ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Batting practice is becoming way too dangerous for the Toronto Blue Jays. Right-hander Chad Jenkins is expected to miss the rest of the regular season after breaking his pitching hand Thursday, making him the second Toronto pitcher in two days to get hurt during pregame warmups. Jenkins was hit by a batted ball while shagging flies before Thursday nights game against Tampa Bay and will be sidelined four to six weeks. He is 1-1 with a 2.56 ERA in 21 relief appearances this season. The injury came one day after knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, standing in the left-field corner, was struck in the head by a drive hit by Rays slugger Evan Longoria during batting practice. Dickey, who is 11-12 in 29 starts this season, threw 62 pitches Thursday in his normal bullpen session between starts. He is scheduled to pitch Sunday at Boston. Melton missed most of last season with Chicago after tearing a ligament in his left knee against Pittsburgh on Sept. 22. He will be reunited with former Bears defensive co-ordinator Rod Marinelli, who now has the same title in Dallas. The fifth-year player was a high school running back in the Dallas area before becoming a defensive tackle with the Texas Longhorns. The 27-year-old Melton has 15 1/2 sacks and 63 tackles in 48 career games, including 32 starts. The Bears drafted him in the fifth round in 2009, and he missed his rookie season with an ankle injury. Melton was arrested in December in Grapevine, where he went to high school, on charges of assault and public intoxication after police say he refused to leave a bar and fought with employees.dddddddddddd Police say Melton was accused of punching the bar manager in the face and biting his arm.
